Then They Came For Gael García Bernal: 'Rosewater' Trailer

By Vivian Kane | Trailers | August 28, 2014 | Comments ()

When Jon Stewart interviewed BBC journalist Maziar Bahari about his memoir, Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival, Stewart was so struck by the story that he decided to make it the subject of his directorial debut. In 2009 Bahari was imprisoned and tortured for 118 days in Iran, where he was working as a journalist covering the election and resulting protests and riots.

The general response to the film so far (the film screened at the Venice Film Festival and is at Telluride and Toronto) has been less than raving. Still, most people seem to agree that Jon Stewart should maybe not quit his night job, this is a story that needed telling.
