Saturday Night Live kicks off its 48th season in a week and a half, on October 1st. It’s been a busy time for the show, losing eight cast members (including Chris Redd, just yesterday) while adding back four new featured players. A lot of cast members held on an extra year because of COVID, and now they’re leaving en masse.
With the first show impending, SNL finally announced its first hosts of the 48th season. The season will kick off with Miles Teller — fresh from Top Gun: Maverick — making his first appearance as host, along with musical guest Kendrick Lamar (making his third appearance). Teller, who starred in the little-seen The Offer on Paramount+ and Spiderhead on Netflix, doesn’t have anything new to promote, but I suspect (assume) he will at least make his punchable face the object of a few jokes (and hopefully, Teller is not as douchey as he has appeared in past interviews).
The second episode will feature Brendan Gleeson, whom I never would have expected to see on SNL. He’ll be promoting The Banshees of Inisherin, and I bet he’ll be low-key excellent. The musical guest will be Willow (i.e., Willow Smith).
Finally, Megan Thee Stallion will be the musical guest and host in the third episode of the season. That should be a hell of an episode.
If you used to watch on Hulu, don’t forget that NBC content is no longer available on the streaming platform (unless you’re a Live TV subscriber). It’s now available streaming on Peacock, or on YouTube the morning after.
