I know I’m opening up a can of worms here. Pajibans love Seth Meyers (especially if he’s wearing a cozy sweater). He’s your late-night Zaddy. You love it when he goes day-drinking with affable celebrities. Nothing will keep you away from absorbing a good Closer Look. It’s all gravy when dealing with Meyers’s cast and crew! Still, nothing creates a delicious film over all that gravy like Jokes Seth Can’t Tell!
I love Jokes Seth Can’t Tell. It feels like the late-night equivalent of a Super Group. Seth is joined by writers/performers/incredible people Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel as they present jokes he can’t tell because he’s a straight white man. He tells the first half, and then the ladies handle the punchlines. Hagel and Ruffin run The Amber Ruffin Show. Yes, that came about after JSCT was a thing, but you still have a deluge of talent behind one desk, and the results are incredible.
The latest iteration of JSCT was the 50th! That’s huge! So, Ruffin and Hagel decided to flip the script as a surprise to Seth. They came out in gowns, sporting champagne (and a marg for Amber in an incredible touch), and decided that Seth should tell the punchlines this time. The results are hilarious. Not only are the jokes great, but Seth’s genuine surprise is a marvel to behold. Hagel and Ruffin also have a hard time keeping it together, making for a moment that will be remembered long after late-night is dead and gone.
