I think kids are fantastic. They’re fun, funny, too smart for their own good, and capable of being the littlest of rascals. If you don’t, I hear you. When I was fourteen years old, I told my mother that I would move out of Western Mass when I turned 18, that I was never getting married, and never having kids. I only made good on one of those promises. Now, I’m married, with two cutie sweet boys who somehow turn 22 months old today. At my day job, talking to kids that are excited to see a Broadway show is my one source of solace. Do you know who else understands where I’m coming from? Stephen Colbert.
Colbert loves the kids. Like me, he has also emphasized talking to kids while he’s at work. In a segment that has yet to settle on a name, Colbert answers questions from people’s kids. Some are serious, some are silly, and all are a joy to watch. Right off the bat, you get an adorable kid who is too focused on their hat to care about the question their sibling is asking. Eventually, we find ourselves faced with the ultimate question: How do you poop in space? Colbert brings in some celebrity help for that one.
Watching this segment was a great way to start my morning. A morning that will involve loading the kids, whom I love so dearly, into a car and driving for two hours. If we don’t time the drive just right, there will be meltdowns. That’s one of the risks you take traveling with toddlers. It’s so worth it, though. I love kids! They’re the best. That said, if you want to go off about how you think kids are creepy or what have you, go right ahead. I was there once too.
