When Gina Carano reached a settlement with Disney after her messy exit from The Mandalorian thanks to her now-infamous social media activity, nobody actually believed this line in Disney’s statement: “We look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.” Turns out, Elon Musk’s money may have actually bought some surprisingly effective legal talent.

According to a new interview with Carano, she’s reportedly already had a conversation with The Mandalorian showrunners Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. More notably, Filoni is now the head of Lucasfilm, so this is not a minor development.

Via IGN:

Details about the conversation or why it happened in the first place remain a mystery, but Carano teases that it was “really nice.”

“Who invites you back? Is there one person?” Carano said regarding her career following the controversy. “I’ve already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Really lovely. After we settled the lawsuit, we got on a Zoom call. It was really nice. Dave Filoni is taking over CEO of Star Wars, and it’s like we didn’t even miss a beat. Jon Favreau was really funny. He got on the Zoom and was like, ‘So, where did we leave off?’ We hadn’t spoke for a while.”

Obviously, the big question is are Filoni and Favreau crazy enough to put Carano in The Mandalorian & Grogu? I guess crazy might not be the right word as much as “legally bound,” but I’d say a brief cameo is definitely on the table. Cara Dune popping up in Ahsoka Season 2 is probably a more likely scenario, but God help us, it might actually be both.

That said, all of this could be nothing. Filoni and Favreau may have simply been required to politely chat with Carano under the auspice of “identifying opportunities.” Does that mean they actually have to put her in a Star Wars? Without knowing the exact details of the settlement, it’s hard to say.

What we can safely deduce is that Carano probably won’t get another shot at fronting a Disney+ series. That money faucet has been turned off, and a lot is riding on both The Baby Yoda Movie and Ahsoka Season 2 to determine the fate of the Mandoverse. Carano fumbled a major bag at the worst possible time, but apparently, “beep boop bop” pronoun jokes were more important. However, in the end, she might still get to wink at Baby Yoda again, and dangit, that is kind of a big win. I don’t like it any more than you do.

(very Werner Herzog voice) Let me vink at ze baby. I did not make ze awful jokes.
