If you are reading this from Canada’s vast and beautiful lands, let me start by apologizing. It’s been crazy over here! A bunch of us elected a stupid and dangerous man as our President and, surprise, it hasn’t been going well. The current administration is trying to set Social Security on fire. They’re texting classified war plans to journalists. JD Vance is forcing people to laugh at his “jokes.” It’s bad over here, which I suspected. Never in a million years would I have thought we’d be going after you fine folks.
Now, to be fair, there are some Canadians who want what Trump wants, both politically and socially. I s*** you not, a man from Toronto drunkenly told me how much he thought it was a “s***hole” the other night and then said the most racist thing I’ve ever heard at my day job (which I’ve had for the better part of 16 years). But the consensus seems to be that Canada wants no part of the active trash fire happening in this country and I can’t say that I blame them. Joining the U.S. is so unpopular that new Prime Minister Mark Carney is pushing back against it and he has some help.
Carney posted a video to social media where he attends a hockey practice (as ya do) and is joined by a famous Canadian. However, the Prime Minister questions his guest’s Canadian bonafides as he now lives in the States. They pass the test in a funny bit that feels classic for the celebrity in question, and Carney then assures them that Canada will always be its own country. The celebrity? Saturday Night: Live alum Mike Myers.
Elbows up, Canada.

This isn’t the first time that Myers has come out against Trump’s deranged plans to annex Canada. He wore a shirt that said “Canada is not for sale” on SNL last month. But, it is nice to see him take that support even further. We can’t get opposition party politicians to be as forceful over here. A comedian going to bat for his fellow citizens is hella nice. I’m just happy to see any spine in the face of bullies. It is in short supply over here.
