Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television* comes from friend of the site Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball, Central Intelligence), who is not enough of a friend for us not to tell him if the trailer for his new TV show sucks. Fortunately, all of that awkwardness has been avoided because this is pretty great, actually.

TV’s Ryan Hansen, who most of you know from TV, stars as the Internet’s Ryan Hansen in YouTube Red’s new series Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television*. He plays himself, TV’s Ryan Hansen, who is partnering with the LAPD as part of some new task force that combines actors with police officers. He’s been partnered with Samira Wiley, who does not play herself, but she does play a bad-ass straightman to TV’s Ryan Hansen.

You kind of have to watch the trailer to understand what I mean. Just watch. Lots of meta jokes. You’ll appreciate it, if you’re into that sort of thing (I am).

I mean, I was sold on TV’s Ryan Hansen. That’s enough right there for me to contact some PR person at YouTube to give me a subscription to YouTube Red so I can watch it for free. With Samira Wiley, though? I’ll even subscribe after YouTube tells me to go fuck myself. The cameos from Kristen Bell, Joel McHale, network TV’s Eric Christian Olsen, and “Movie Star Donald Fucking Faison” are just gravy. I mean, TVLine calls is “Laugh Out Loud Funny!” (What, you couldn’t have asked me for a quote, Rawson? I see how it is.)

The series launches on October 25th. Wait, holy shit. That’s today! (And you have six more days to get a free three-month subscription to YouTube Red. This seems as good a time as any to try it. DO IT FOR SAMIRA!)
