Considering the generally slow speed of television output these days and the relative size of this production, House of the Dragon coming back a year and a half later feels speedy, all things considered. While we knew in advance that the trailer for the upcoming season would come out today, what is a surprise is that there’s not one, but two trailers available: one that depicts the perspective of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s side of the war, her political faction referred to as the Blacks, with the other trailer focusing on Alicent Hightower’s faction, known as the Greens. From the official HBO summary:
Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Green and Black trailers reflect those two perspectives in separate yet complementary halves of the same story. For global audiences, “All Must Choose” their side of House Targaryen as the realm fractures in season two.

For those who can use a refresher, the first season finale ended with a heartbreaking death that lit the powder keg of war situated directly beneath this troubled family. Watch these dueling trailers and decide which side you fall on, Team Green or Team Black. Personally, I’ve made my choice (hint: it’s not the one with the evil sons, misogynistic bodyguard, or terrible father who’s been quietly plotting in the shadows for decades), but some viewers may be persuaded otherwise. With a total of only eight episodes on the way, this season will come at a much brisker, and certainly much deadlier, pace.
Season two of House of the Dragon will premiere June 16th on HBO.
