Andy Samberg To Star In An Action Comedy From 'Abigail' Directors

Andy Samberg hasn’t been the star of a live-action film since 2020’s Palm Springs. He’s had plenty of guest roles. There are plenty of films he’s lent his voice to. But we haven’t seen Samberg, front and center, since the time loop comedy he starred in with Cristin Milioti. That is all about to change with the help of a pair of in-demand horror directors.

Radio Silence has been on fire these last few years. Their horror comedy film, Ready Or Not, was a smash with critics and made almost ten times its budget at the box office. They followed that up with the 2022 Scream, becoming the first directors to make one of those films who weren’t named Wes Craven. It was successful enough that they made another, and then the ballerina vampire film Abigail.

Deadline reports that the directorial duo will direct the SNL alum in a new film titled The Robots Go Crazy. Samberg and Ali Bell will produce the movie alongside Radio Silence members and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett under The Lonely Island’s banner Party Over Here. Radio Silence’s Chad Villella, Silk Mass’s Jon Silk, and Party Over Here (and Lonely Island members) Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone are also producing.

The package for the film was in high demand and was snatched up by Amazon MGM Studios. It makes sense. While details have yet to be revealed, the team sounds like a winning combination. Samberg and Radio Silence are no strangers to comedy, and the title is intriguing. Deadline did not have a writer listed in its report, so the script may not even be written.

There’s also the snag that, given the company who purchased it, this movie may not make it to the big screen. That wouldn’t be the worst thing. Still, a movie (presumably) about Andy Samberg fighting crazy robots deserves to be seen on a big screen. Heck, give it the 4DX treatment.
