Why Is William Shatner Flooding Our Twitter Feeds With 'My Little Pony'?

If you follow any number of geek-based celebrities on Twitter, you may have noticed a sudden influx of My Little Ponies. Specifically, heads of your favorite celebrities photoshopped (or drawn) onto the bodies of Ponies, like some sort of nerdy, adorable abomination.

These ponypeople have all been accompanied with the hashtag #ShatnerMadeMeDoIt, which begs the question… “Huh?”

It turns out this is all related to GISHWHES (Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen), which was created by Supernatural star Misha Collins to be “part silliness, part art, part kindness and 100% fun.” The week-long hunt (which we’re right in the middle of now) has previously featured challenges like getting a Stormtrooper to clean a swimming pool, donating blood, and wearing an outfit made of cheese.

One major fan of GISHWHES is William Shatner. The man is super excited for the hunt—

And also pretty damn competitive.

Now, I’m not sure how exactly Shatner is behind this (any of you more in the know, please help out below), but it looks like teams earn points by getting a retweet of their My Little Pony/celebrity mashup art. For those of us not participating in the hunt, let’s just be grateful to have our feeds filled with friendship and magic. And these weird pony-person hybrids.
