If I have any sort of signature writing style, it’s immediately digging myself in a hole. So, let me do that right now by rationalizing my Twitter use in the face of Elon Musk actively turning it into a Nazi disinformation machine: It’s how I landed at this sweet haven of a site that nursed me back to health. I would have been dead in the water if Dustin hadn’t scooped me up after seeing my post mortem on The Superficial all those years ago. Some days, he probably regrets that decision! But I truly love doing whatever I can to help this place chug along as online publishing continues to be a toilet fire.

Speaking of, if you work in digital media, Twitter is still the place to make connections, keep your name out there, and watch events unfold in real time. To be very freaking clear, all of that is happening in spite of Elon, and hopefully, that will be the case when he’s inevitably forced to sell. But even now, Threads and Bluesky are cheap chewing gum, and Twitter is Marlboro Reds. There’s just no comparison. (What’s Facebook? Cracker Barrel.)

Anyway, during one of my 800 scrolling sessions, I caught country superstar Zach Bryan pissing and moaning about Taylor Swift endorsing Kamala Harris, which tracks because Zach Bryan looks exactly like a guy who would get mad about Taylor Swift. You could pick him out of a lineup with your eyes closed.

“Anyone willing to put politics above music don’t get the point of listening to music,” Bryan tweeted, only to be flooded with people pointing out that Johnny Cash and others were political as hell.

Granted, we’ve had some heated discussions over letting politics come between family and friends, but when a guy like Bryan starts bitching about everything being political, nine times out of 10 he’s mad that his shit-awful views are being challenged. Sure enough, things reached a head on Tuesday night when Bryan tweeted the following via Variety:

eagles > chiefs
Kanye > Taylor
who’s with me

Considering Kanye had a well-documented love affair with Trump — at least until the voices that told him to dress Kim Kardashian like a couch revealed that Trump isn’t Nazi enough — it wasn’t hard to pick up what Bryan was throwing down. However, he lacked the balls to openly admit where he stands, so he tried to walk back his tweet by claiming he was drunk.

“Guys I love Taylor,” he tweeted. “was listening to TTPD last night and ‘Thank You Aimee’ came on and I drunkenly tweeted that about Kanye. If anyone took it serious please know I love both artists a lot and think we’re in a really beautiful time of music.”

Bryan’s backtrack didn’t last long though because, as of this writing, he nuked his whole Twitter account. And I know what you’re thinking, “Mike, doesn’t that mean Zach Bryan has more willpower than you?” Hahaha, yeah.

Although, in a surprising bit of journalism, Variety did some digging, and it turns out Bryan didn’t completely delete his social media presence:

Although he exited X, Bryan did not deactivate his Instagram account. There, he left evidence that his listening habits have been consumed by Ye more than Swift, despite his declaration on the other platform that he’d been listening to “Tortured Poets.” On his Story, Bryan posted screenshots of three West songs he’d been calling up and apparently enjoying on Spotify, including “I Thought About Killing Somebody.”

Yikes. Good thing we don’t live in a country where there’s unfettered access to firearms. Could you imagine? Excuse me. *touches earpiece* Uh uh, uh huh. I see. Any Walmart? Uh uh.
