Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are willing to bleed for us. The celebrity power couple, who made the pandemic feel real for more Americans than we’d care to admit, have recovered from Coronavirus. Now, they are giving their blood to aid in creating a vaccine.

Hanks revealed this on the NPR podcast, Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me! “We have not only been approached, we have said, ‘Do you want our blood? Can we give plasma?’” he said, noting, “just found out that we do carry the antibodies.”

Hanks also joked, “We will be giving it now to the places that hope to work on what I would like to call the Hank-ccine,” adding, “I’m not trying to hog it with a copyright.”

The celebrity couple contracted the Coronavirus while in Australia, shooting the Baz Luhrmann’s Untitled Elvis Presley Project. The movie—along with untold Hollywood productions—is now on hold. So, the couple is back home, and Hanks reports they are feeling “fine and dandy.”

This is a great change from when they were in the throes of the virus. Hanks said his symptoms were similar to the flu, including body aches and fatigue. He described trying to do a 30-minute workout while in quarantine in an Australian hospital, then having to quit at the 12-minute mark from exhaustion.

“Whoever it was, a doctor or nurse, would come into our air pressurized, isolation rooms. She said, ‘How are you feeling?’ and I said, ‘I just had the weirdest thing. I just tried to do basic stretches and exercises on the floor and I couldn’t even get halfway through,” Hanks recounted. “And she looked at me through her glasses like she was talking to the dumbest human being. And she said, ‘You have COVID-19.’”

However, his wife suffered far worse. “Rita went through a tougher time than I did,” Hanks told The National Defense Radio Show, “She had a much higher fever. She had lost her sense of taste and sense of smell. She got absolutely no joy from food for a better part of three weeks.” He added, “She was so nauseous, she had to crawl on the floor from the bed to the facilities.”

Still, Hanks and Wilson managed to entertain and do good during their quarantine. He appeared on a very special episode of Saturday Night Live (remotely of course). She shared a spirited cover of Naughty by Nature’s “Hip Hop Hooray.” Then, spurred by its popularity, Wilson and the iconic group did a remix to fundraise for MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.
