I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m really trying to wean myself off of these, but yesterday’s Dall-E post had me curious about that other cheeky AI character: the deepfake. I’m being flippant, of course—deepfakes have the potential to be significantly dangerous, as we’ve been pointing out since the very start. So consider the series of posts we’ve done (and let’s be honest, will probably continue to do) on them here a form of vigilance. Deepfakes have gotten noticeably slicker and less distinguishable from the real thing in just the few short years we’ve been covering them here. As the old saying goes: ‘Knowledge is power.’ In the coming information wars, knowing your deepfake enemy will serve you well. Plus, you know, you can’t deny stuff like this is pretty amusing on top of it all too:
