There aren’t many shows I love more than It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I’d be repeating myself if I said I didn’t think the newer seasons were up to the gold standard the show had set for itself in the first ten or so, but I should say that I just recently dipped my feet into the newest season (season sixteen—what, how, when??), and from what I’ve seen so far it seems like a step in a good direction! Despite that, I can’t see the show itself now beating the best thing the gang are currently working on: That amazing podcast.

I’ve written about it before so I won’t gush yet again, but one of the greatest treats about it is realising, over time, just how many of the actors’ traits are found within their characters. It’s a sliding scale. On the bottom, you have Kaitlin Olson who is pretty much nothing like Dee (thank god); she’s just an actor who does an amazing job becoming someone else. Rob McElhenney is next up: You can sense some of him in Mac. And then you have Charlie and Glenn, both of whom clearly put a lot of themselves into their characters. It’s incredibly satisfying and funny to watch the two on the podcast, and to constantly see glimpses of Charlie Kelly’s manic, pinball energy and Dennis Reynolds’ persnickety focus and short temper.

The greatest treat of all, however, happens whenever the three argue over each other. That is as delicious as it gets. Now some kind soul on YouTube has done the world a favour and cut together some moments from the podcast where this symmetry shows. Thank you for your service, channel in a turtle’s dream.
