Aside from a year abroad in Arizona, I’ve been an East Coaster for most of my life. I love it here. It’s miserable, cold, and humid, and that’s just during the fall months. There’s nowhere I’d rather begrudgingly live. I’ve only been to Los Angeles once, for work, not pleasure, and I made the mistake of assuming I could easily walk to a Taco Bell because it was only a mile away. I do not like Los Angeles, but who cares what I think? I’m not a sweet little kid!
On a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel: Live, Jimmy’s crew talked to children from New York and Los Angeles to get their views on each city. The results are a shot of laugh-out-loud adorableness. Every kid they talk to is either sweetly sincere or a big ol’ ham. They do accents, accuse their parents of drinking the most wine, and want you to know that their uncles are famous and dumb.
Everything they’re saying is likely filtered through their parents into their brains, so it’s all just a little bit off. Giving precocious kids a microphone (and then editing down to the best takes) is often a surefire method for success, but something about this just really got to me this morning. Maybe it’s the fact that, even when mocking the other city, these kids are just having fun. There’s nothing mean-spirited here, just good-natured ribbing.
A perfect way to start a week that will likely stink to the high heavens!
