Full disclosure: My twin boys turn one tomorrow. Apparently, that is enough to have made me cry while watching this interview. There’s nothing even particularly emotional about the interview. Just a charming young man, wearing a blazer and being a sweet, good boy. I started crying about a minute in and kept going well after it was done. So, I may be biased, but I just want to see Jimmy Kimmel interview more kids.
I know that shows like Kids Say The Darndest Things exist, but I think this could be more straightforward. You just treat it like a regular talk show but instead of celebrities, he talks to kids. Already you would see a boost in Jimmy’s mood. You can see it in this interview! Even though it’s over Zoom, Jimmy is engaged and excited and seems to be genuinely having a good time.
It does help that Jude Hill, the child Jimmy is interviewing here, is charismatic. He acts like what I would expect a famous kid in a movie to act like. The only difference is we don’t see him off-screen, cursing out his agent. No, instead we are treated to an excited young lad who just seems thrilled to be doing what he’s doing. Just like Jimmy. Everyone’s having a good time and … dammit, I’m crying again.
