I Facetime with my parents a lot. It’s the easiest way for them to see their grandkids. The kids love it. My parents love it. It works. Despite its purpose, which is to be a carefree moment where my kids can tell Grandma and Grandpa what they’re having for dinner, my Dad will (sometimes knowingly) ruin it. “You see what Trump/Cruz/Desantis did today,” he’ll ask. The man will take a perfectly pleasant moment and fart in the room.

I hate the word fart (we say toot in this house), but there’s no other way to describe it. What my Dad does is annoying, inconsiderate, and more effortless the older he gets. When I’ve called him out on it, he’s retorted with a self-righteous, “That’s what’s happening right now. You can’t hide from it.” I’m not trying to hide from it. I work for this site. I am more than aware of how f***ed we are as a country.

My Dad doesn’t bring up politically charged topics because he supports right-wing politics. It’s a mix of several other things. He wants to sound smart. He can’t pay attention to his grandkids for more than three minutes. He’s also trying to get a rise out of me. Why? Who the f*** knows? I know that I’m tired of it and wish there was a service I could subscribe to to get him to shut up. Cue Leslie Jones!

Jones is filling in as host of The Daily Show this week. In honor of Thanksgiving, Jones starred in a sketch that features her yelling at annoying relatives at Thanksgiving. She’s taking what should be a nice, relaxing time and protecting it from people who want to s*** in the punch bowl with their hot takes on political and social issues. Again, I hate to use such crass imagery, but look at what we’re talking about here.

Jones is hilarious in this sketch. It’s quick and funny and plays to her strengths in the best way. I would be surprised if there wasn’t a similar sketch while she was on SNL. It is classic Leslie Jones. There’s a lot of uncertainty at The Daily Show right now, but you wouldn’t be able to tell based on what their writing staff is putting out. They’re firing on all cylinders right now.
