Celebrities bend the knee to the tyrant Conan O’Brien too often! They appear on his podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, and are forced from the beginning to swear allegiance. No more! Leslie Jones is here to put a stop to his maddening monarchy. She starts the show by telling Conan that she could “give a s***” if she was Conan’s friend. The incorrectness of the statement aside, it was a stellar way to kick off a great interview.

Her attitude was, of course, in jest. However, that did not stop some genuine laughter from Sona Movsesian and Matt Gourley. Conan so often takes the piss out of guests and co-hosts alike that it’s clearly relieving to see someone do that to him. The giant podcast table has been turned, so to speak.

Jokes aside, it’s amazing what a burst of energy can do to the beginning of a podcast. Intentionally or not, the beginning of Conan’s show is usually a bit more measured. Guests tend to reflect or get serious when given the prompt “My name is blank, and I feel blank about being Conan O’Brien’s Friend.” Here, Leslie Jones dives in head first and sets an energetic tone for the rest of the interview.

More guests should start by taking Conan to task! He’s begging for it.
