“I’ve cried so much where my wife is just sick of me crying.” That’s what Ke Huy Quan said to Stephen Colbert. It makes sense. Despite making waves as a child actor, Quan found himself languishing in obscurity for years. He had moved on from acting. His return is being heralded as a modern success story. Quan is now an Oscar-nominated actor for his turn in Everything Everywhere All At Once. He’s reconnecting with old friends. He’s getting his flowers, as the children say, and he’s not the only one crying!

Quan sat down on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His excitement is both immediate and infectious. He doesn’t just plop down on the couch. Ke stops and waves to the crowd. He soaks in his moment with sincerity and love. He is present and grounded. We’re getting to see someone live out their dream, and I could not be happier for them.

I was an enormous Temple of Doom fan growing up (and still am now). I had always wondered what happened to Ke Huy Quan. The last time I remember seeing him perform was in Encino Man. Part of me assumed he had moved on of his own volition. That is rarely how Hollywood works. No, Quan had found himself looking for work and coming up empty as recently as 2020! Knowing all of this, and seeing him get his moment, has left me in a puddle of tears.

At the end of the day, I’m incredibly happy for Ke’s current success as a whole. One story, in particular, destroys me though. At first, I read it and cried. This time, I heard it and sobbed. That is the story of Quan seeing Harrison Ford for the first time in 38 years. It is so incredibly sweet and encapsulates Ke’s current relationship with fame. He assumed Ford wouldn’t remember him and shoo him away. Instead, Ford remembered him immediately and hugged him. At that moment, we were all Harrison Ford.
