If The Flight Attendant and Only Murders In the Building had a baby, it might look like Based On a True Story. Kaley Cuoco received numerous award nominations for her performance in The Flight Attendant, HBO’s hit series about an alcoholic hot mess who wakes up next to a corpse and gets roped into CIA investigations, espionage, and arms dealing. We loved it, and I made a personal plea to the writers when it seemed like they might mess up Annie and Max, TV’s cutest couple. It was funny and thrilling, and Cuoco in particular knocked it out of the park as Cassie Bowden.

Now Cuoco joins Peacock as Ava Bartlett, former real estate agent, expectant mother, and true crime podcast junkie. She and her unemployed husband Nathan (Chris Messina, Air) see an opportunity when the West Side Ripper, a headline-grabbing serial killer, murders one of their neighbors. Could one of Ava and Nathan’s close friends be the killer? Can they turn the killings into a financial windfall by getting the suspected killer onto their podcast? They better, or this will be a really short show.

Created by Craig Rosenberg, producer and writer for The Boys, Based on a True Story looks to embrace the shady and exploitative nature of true crime fandom more than OMitB, with Cuoco using the same frenetic energy she brought to The Flight Attendant. The supporting cast includes Liana Liberato (Scream VI), Tim Bateman (Death on the Nile), and Priscilla Quintana (Good Trouble, Pandora). Based on a True Story premieres June 8, only on Peacock.
