I thought I had reached my limit watching Jordan Klepper cover Trump rallies. They’re depressing as hell. Even with someone as intelligent and funny as Klepper at the helm, it’s hard to watch so many people be so delusional and hateful. That’s why I was intrigued by Klepper’s most recent rally visit. It wasn’t much of a rally, and Klepper’s video is more bearable.
TFG told his supporters he would be indicted on Tuesday, March 21st. He demanded that his supporters take to the streets of NYC to take their country back. Like most things he says, it was all bullshit. He may still get indicted, but not on March 21st. Not only was he not indicted but very few of his supporters showed up. There were more reporters than angry Trump supporters, and Jordan Klepper was one of them.
Despite their dwindling numbers, the idiots that Klepper did speak to were extra vile. Transphobia, homophobia, misogyny, and complete separation from reality were all on full display. It’s as if TFG’s powers now only extend to the worst of the worst and the dumbest of the dumb (at least in NYC). I love my city, but you could find a few people like this whether Trump called on them or not. It’s a big city. You’re bound to run into a jerk or two.
There are a lot of contributing factors to the low turnout. TFG’s arrest wasn’t guaranteed; he didn’t help the last people who rallied for him; and even his most ardent and cuckoo bananas supporters, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, urged followers not to protest. Because she can’t say anything without acting crazy, she reasoned that the whole thing was an FBI sting. An incredible act of delusion that her supporters took to heart.
Time will tell if this is the end of TFG’s powers. There are enough of his supporters, I think, who take being arrested very seriously. Such a thing happening would hurt him significantly (which is why his allies keep saying it will help). The downside is if it doesn’t happen, those same followers hiding now will file in to support him, and his rallies will be back to “normal.”
