I’ve lived in NYC for fifteen years. In that time, I’ve lived under three different mayors. By the time I arrived, depending on who you asked, people had already soured on Michael Bloomberg. When Bill de Blasio was elected, the air was more positive. Slowly but surely, people turned against him for plenty of valid reasons. There is nothing slow about the hatred the people of New York City feel for our current mayor and Forever Cop Eric Adams.

“Every time Eric Adams does something, you have to stop and say, ‘what is he getting out of this?’” Desus Nice said this to a packed Jimmy Kimmel: Live audience in Brooklyn last night. The people in attendance could not clap fast enough. It’s not unusual for politicians to be the butt of a joke, but Adams is (supposedly) a Democrat in New York City. You have to try really hard to lose public favor as quickly as he has.

Adams isn’t even referenced because of his policies, or his inability to close Ryker’s Island Penitentiary despite overcrowding and inmate deaths. Jimmy brings up the possibility of moving Madison Square Garden, which Adams has said he is open to. It’s just another example of one of the things Adams is the worst at: connecting to regular New Yorkers. He likes rich people who come here during the fall or early winter and head for the hills or the beach as soon as it gets too hot or too cold.

New York City does not like Eric Adams; that won’t keep him from a second term, but it won’t keep him from being publicly clowned either.
