The Real-Life Love Interests of the Cast of 'Love Actually'
It’s been a decade since the release of Love Actually, and every Christmas season, because of its strangely enduring popularity, we pop-culture websites trot the movie out and dissect it again. This year, on its 10th Anniversary, it seems that it’s being deconstructed even more than recent years. Mother Jones is asking “Why Does Love Actually Matter?,” Alyssa Rosenberg over on ThinkProgress has reframed it as a tragedy, and The Atlantic is having an argument with itself, with two opposing pieces: “Love Actually is the Least Romantic Film of All Time” and “I Will Not Be Ashamed of Loving Love Actually.” These are mostly debates that have already played out on Pajiba.
There’s not a lot of angles left when it comes to Love Actually, but since we love talking about it, I dug up one more, ever so suitable to our Seriously Random List category: The current real-life love interests (spouses, partners) of the cast of Love Actually, which is probably more interesting to us in the States because we don’t really know who most of these (mostly) British actors are married to. It’s a little voyeuristic, but it will satisfy a curiosity itch you didn’t know you had.
Bill Nighy (Billy Mack) has a daughter with his long-time partner, Diana Quick.
Gregor Fisher (Joe) is married to Vicki Burton.
Colin Firth (Jamie) is married to actress, Livia Giuggioli.
Liam Neeson (Daniel) was married, of course, to the late Natasha Richardson. (I will not spoil that thought by telling you that Neeson recently ended a relationship with a publicist).
Emma Thompson (Karen) is now married to actor/producer Greg Wise.
Kris Marshall (Colin) is married to Hannah Dodkins (and though I’ve seen Love, Actually half a dozen times, and though I was a big fan of the short-lived sitcom, Traffic Light, I only just put two and two together and realized Marshall was one of the leads in Traffic Light)
Heike Makatsch (Mia) is married to composer Max Martin Schröder (both are more famous in Germany). Interestingly, Makatsch used to be in a long-term relationship with Daniel Craig.
Martin Freeman (John) is married to actress Amanda Abbington (who plays Mary Morstan in Sherlock)
Joanna Page (Just Judy) is married to James Thornton.
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Peter) is dating Sara Mercer.
Andrew Lincoln (Mark) is married to Gael Anderson (who is the daughter of a famous Scottish flautist)
Keira Knightley (Juliet) is married to James Righton (keyboardist for The Saxons)
Hugh Grant (the Prime Minister) is not married, but he has two children with ex-girlfriend Tinglan Hong.
Martine McCutcheon (Natalie) is married to Jack McManus.
Laura Linney (Sarah) is married to Marc Schauer.
Alan Rickman’s (Harry) longtime partner is Rima Horton.
Billy Bob Thornton (The US President) hasn’t been married since Angelia Jolie (his 5th spouse), but he’s in a long-term relationship with Connie Angland.
Rowan Atkinson (Rufus) is married to Sunetra Sastry.
Elisha Cuthbert (Carol Anne, American Goddess) is married to hockey player Dion Phaneuf.
