Lately, Sandra Bullock has been making a meal of traditionally male roles. In Gravity, she stunned as an astronaut lost in space. In The Heat, she showed buddy cop comedies could sing with a few shots of estrogen. And this past weekend with Our Brand Is Crisis, she tackled a role written for George Clooney. Now, she’s poised to assemble a squad of ass-kicking actresses to bring new life to a dude-stuffed franchise.
The Playlist reports Bullock will headline an all-female Ocean’s Eleven movie. Clooney—who may pop in for a cameo as Danny Ocean—is on board as a producer along with the trilogy’s original helmer, Steven Soderbergh. Hunger Games’s Gary Ross is lined up to direct, while up-and-coming screenwriter Olivia Milch (Queen and Country, Little Women) has already turned in a draft of the script.
At present, it’s unclear how this actress-filled crime-comedy would tie into the existing Ocean’s trilogy, or even what it would be called. And we have a sneaking suspicion that producers might wait to see how the new Ghostbusters is received before settling on a budget. But that doesn’t mean it’s too soon to pick who we’d like to team up with Bullock in this all-broads spin-off.
Viola Davis
She could be the chic, sleek and ever-charming Brad Pitt to Bullock’s Clooney! Minus the bullshit snacking throughout.
Helen Mirren
Looking glamorous while dual-fisting damaging? Ain’t no thing for this queen.
Rebecca Ferguson
She won our hearts and lions with Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. We demand more of her immediately.
Gina Rodriguez
Yeah, she’s up for Star Wars shenanigans, but Jane the Virgin’s charisma bomb deserves more than one fabulous franchise.
Natalie Dormer
That smirk screams danger.
Sandra Oh
As in “Oh, how we’ve missed her since she’s left Grey’s Anatomy!”
Gugu Mbatha-Raw
In 2014 she gave us beauty and emotion in Belle and Beyond the Lights. Time to let her cut loose.
Constance Wu
Watch Fresh off the Boat and get on board with her greatness and killer comedy timing.
Kether Donohue
In a crowded field of the best of You’re The Worst, this scene-stealer is always coming out on top.
Gina Torres
We want to see her Firefly flawlessness back in action.
Laverne Cox
Yes ma’am!
SWINTON.
Always and forever. For everything.
Tell us in comments what other actresses you’d like to see looped into the latest Ocean’s Eleven.
Kristy Puchko hopes Hollywood is even half as creative as her in this film’s casting.
