If you thought the Tea Party wave was bad, we’re now starting to see the real fruits of Trump’s Republican party in Congressional candidates from the far-right fringes not only winning primaries, but winning seats in Congress. Last week, Donald Trump and several Republicans welcomed the victory of a QAnon conspiracy theorist in a GOP primary in Georgia in a district so red that Marjorie Taylor Greene — who Trump calls “the future of the Republican party” — is all but guaranteed a victory in November. Listen to Tapper:
CNN’s @jaketapper on some GOP leaders welcoming the candidacy of a QANON conspiracy supporter: The Republican Party is “no longer about the establishment versus the MAGA forces of disruption. It’s about those who still care about facts… and those who have no allegiance to them" pic.twitter.com/gaNvVytdoS— State of the Union (@CNNSotu) August 16, 2020
Now, in Trump’s home district, where Mar-a-Lago is located, a woman named Laura Loomer — who has been banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, CPAC, GoFundMe, Venmo, MGM Resorts, PayPal, Lyft, Uber and Uber Eats — has won her primary.
Laura Loomer winning elections is why America can’t have nice things (or go outside or have society any longer) https://t.co/WC2UES5o4K— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) August 19, 2020
Right-wing Twitter is now demanding that Twitter reinstate her accounts, but there’s a reason why Loomer has been banned by so many organizations. Loomer believes that Sandy Hook was a hoax. She believes that the mass shooting in Las Vegas was a false flag operation perpetrated by ISIS, that crisis actors were hired for a mass shooting in Santa Fe. She conspired with Jacob Wohl to spread false information that Ilhan Omar married her brother to get him U.S. Citizenship.
Here’s a sampling of why she was banned from social media:
I don’t even have to tell you that Donald Trump congratulated her, because you knew that already.
This is unchecked Trumpism. Loomer will probably lose (it’s a blue district), but this is increasingly where the Republican party is headed. I’ve love to say that they are running themselves into irrelevancy, but with people like Matt Gaetz and Devin Nunes on Congress, that is clearly not the case. Laura Loomer’s application for a job at Office Depot would be immediately rejected based on her social media history, but that hasn’t stopped her from becoming a “rising star” of the Republican party.
The future of the GOP is essentially a politically sanctioned hate group.
