When did you first notice Randall Park?

Was it when he became the face of Asian dad-dom in Fresh Off The Boat? Or maybe when he was in that movie that got Sony hacked that I may or may not be mentioning by name just in case they’re still mad about it?

Or are you an old school fan, dating back to when he showed up in Veep as Danny Chung, or The Office as Asian Jim Halpert?

All great roles, but for me, Randall Park will always be James Melville in IKEA Heights.

What’s IKEA Heights, you ask? Allow me to explain!

A long time ago, Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab created a low budget monthly “TV Festival” called Channel 101, which is still running today. People create low/no budget five-minute “pilots” and submit them for judgment. Five pilots make it to the monthly screening, alongside five returning shows, and all ten are voted on by the audience (remember when we could go places and be an audience?). Top five are “renewed” for another episode, the others canceled.

The Lonely Island did some early work here, pre-SNL. So too have many others you’ve likely seen now in movies and television, like Randall Park, who was in a number of Channel 101 shows, but my favorite has always been Ikea Heights, a melodrama which was (brilliantly) filmed entirely inside of a local IKEA, which led to a show like this:

Was all that preamble just an excuse to post a clip of the show? Maybe! But it also happens to be relevant to this week’s episode of the podcast, since we did, in fact, see just how far Randall Park has come, now that he’s back on our screens as Jimmy Woo on WandaVision.

Other things we discussed:

- We talk about the Super Bowl, forget who lost last year, and (at the end) Tori predicts the winner!

- Dustin provides another Riverdale Recap!

- I remind you of the return of Snowpiercer on TNT, and mention the premiere of Resident Alien on Syfy!

- We talk about this week’s Saturday Night Live!

- Derek DelGaudio’s Hulu special In And Of Itself may be discussed!

Lots of show this week, and lots more next week, probably! Hope you enjoy the episode wherever you enjoy podcasts or even where you don’t! Here is your direct download link!
