As the legend goes, Jon Favreau took a huge gamble backing Robert Downey Jr. to play Iron Man. Despite it becoming a casting decision for the ages, Favreau had to fight tooth and nail with the studio, who was understandably hesitant given the fact that Downey was basically uninsurable thanks to his troubled past. However, in a new twist, it turns out the future Tony Stark had actually met with Marvel years before for an entirely different role. (IndieWire)
