Y'all, the New York Knicks are in the NBA Finals, and they are on a tear. Some people may say that their good fortune, which has turned into a 13-game winning streak, is thanks to a pro wrestler named Danhausen removing a curse from the team a few weeks back, and those people would be correct. The team's success has given NYC a boost of energy that has been incredible to witness. I was walking by Madison Square Garden with a friend a couple of weeks ago and saw fans outside celebrating the Knicks' winning ways. The joy was infectious.
Fans have gathered outside the stadium to watch the games on a giant screen, joining together as they cheer on the team in unison. There is a true sense of togetherness that comes from that group. And that attitude has permeated the city. Even Brooklyn Nets fans who I know are posting in support of the Knicks, and the vibes are so good that I'm not even going to rag on switching sides like that. New Yorkers are united, and, save for a sudden dip in ability leading to four straight losses, I don't see anything raining on this parade. Oh, wait.
You see, there's a certain former citizen of New York who likes to crap on it constantly. Though, to be fair, he would take shots at the city and its residents when he claimed to be its favorite son as well. However, this vile human being also likes to pretend that the people of New York love him, and, to be fair again, there are plenty of stupid and hateful people in the world; NYC is no exception to that idea, and therefore has plenty of people who like the President and voted for him in the last election, but even his supporters in NYC have turned on him since the last election.
Still, the man is too high on his own supply and living in a land of illusion that I bet he still thinks he'll get a god pop, as they say in the wrestling biz, if he appears in his former hometown for the Knicks' first home game of the NBA Finals. Thinking such a thing has to be a result of pure delusion, as the man couldn't even go in front of NFL fans without being booed, but his delusion could be our gain in this case. And the loser doesn't even need his harmful policies to get people riled up.
Thanks to his visit, Madison Square Garden has asked fans to arrive at the game as much as two hours early, as they claim there will be TSA-style check-ins for the event. I've gone to MSG plenty, and the staff there is good about getting people in on time. This disruption will not sit well with them. To make matters worse, the crowd will not be able to gather outside of the stadium, as per usual, due to heightened security. And, despite folks trying to claim otherwise, the NYPD made it very clear that the crowd would be dispersed because of the President's arrival.
The President of the United States has spent his political career trying to harm anyone he doesn't like or value. His time in office has done incredible damage to our country, and it will take a long time to recover (if we ever do). He's a hateful, racist, misogynistic, arrogant, stupid, petty man. There are ample reasons to hate him. And yet, he's able to come up with whole new ones, just because he thinks he'll get cheap applause from people who clearly hate him. Gotta give it up for the innovation, I guess.
