It’s hard to think of a director more well-known than Steven Spielberg. There may be some film buffs out there who disagree with me, but when it comes to filmmakers that everyone knows, the man behind E.T. is at the top of the list. He’s made some of what people consider the best stories put to celluloid, and has done so for decades. Jaws just celebrated its 50th anniversary, for chrissakes! So, you may assume that someone in their late 70s who has already achieved so much would have an eye on settling down. No way, jabroni (sorry, I don’t know why I called you that, I think I’m still just mad more people haven’t seen The Fabelmans).

Speaking of one of his best movies, Spielberg is still pumping out the goods. Doing another film adaptation of West Side Story would seem like a foolhardy task, even when done by the man who gave us a rousing rendition of Anything Goes to kick off Temple of Doom. Still, the man delivered a beautiful movie musical worthy of the show’s legacy. His semi-autobiographical film, the aforementioned Fabelmans, is a stirring and beautiful look at his early years through the lens of growth and maturity. We watch him deal with discovering that his parents were people. It rules, and you should go watch it if you haven’t already.

Next, Spielberg is set to make an untitled UFO film with the likes of Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth. I’ve also just learned that the film will star three professional wrestlers, one of whom will be playing a referee, so we’ll also see some wrestling from one of the greatest living directors, and y’all, my day just got eight million times better. I was going to gush about Spielberg making a return to extraterrestrials, but the wrestling connection just jumped to the top of my excitement list.

Universal Pictures, which has worked with Spielberg for decades, dedicated a new state-of-the-art theater to him in LA on Thursday night. While speaking to the people in attendance, who included the likes of Seth Rogen, Dakota Fanning, Key Huy Quan, and Vin Diesel, Spielberg noted that the studio was going through a rebirth, quickly joking/plugging, “And I don’t mean Jurassic World Rebirth opening July 2.” He explained that he has had “many fathers” at the studio (watch The Fabelmans), but now he feels part of a loving family (please watch The Fabelmans).

“I mean the rebirth of the belief in the people that work as a family, as a community, as a team to make good things happen,” Spielberg told the crowd. He finished by noting, “I love you all, and, um… I’m making a lot of movies and I have no plans…ever…to retire.” Hell yeah, Steven! Do not go quietly into the night! Etcetera! When a man as good as Steven Spielberg is still firing on all cylinders, you let him do it as long as he wants, and it sounds like he’ll keep going after his untitled UFO film, and he may even have an idea of what’s next.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg revealed there’s still a genre he wants to play with. He explained that he has “an appetite for a Western which I will someday hopefully do… It’s something that’s eluded me for all of these decades.” Do whatever you want, Steven. Do a Western. Do five. Just keep making movies for as long as you want, and I will be there to see them.
