WARNING: Spoilers for The Boys Season 5 below.
One of the most astounding and terrifying societal implications about The Boys is how many people made it several seasons into the show before it dawned on them Homelander is the bad guy. Some still haven’t grasped that fact even after an entire final season where he declares himself God and plans to murder any Christians who don’t get onboard. Well, you can count Elon Musk among that horde.
After giving the Amazon series a delicious gift by whining about the finale, easily tripling the number of headlines, Musk doubled down by taking a run at showrunner Erik Kripke, who was absolutely thrilled that the world’s richest man was so easily baited.
“Kripke probably got flack from his wife’s bf for Homelander being used in based memes and had to write that ending as a groveling apology,” Musk tweeted.
Here’s the best part: Not only does an alleged genius think that being a meme makes you “based,” which is something no one older than 14 should ever think, his infamous lack of media literacy actually has a simple explanation this time. He’s never watched the show. Musk literally admits as much, yet here he is publicly defending a character simply because he’s a blonde hair, blue-eyed weirdo in an American flag cape, and again, has his own memes. That’s it.
Of course, it didn’t take long for people to openly mock Musk for crashing out about the finale, forcing him to declare that he’s not mad, which is always a sign that things are going great.
“I’m not upset,” Musk responded, “just remarking that the ending sounds fake and gay.”
“Fake and gay.” Those are the words you want to see from a guy who just declared himself CEO for life in a trillion-dollar IPO. Good luck with that, SpaceX.
