I met Zendaya sometime in 2019 while I was bartending at a Broadway show that shall remain nameless. She was ushered into a lounge that we have for customers so she could hang out between shows (it was a two-parter), something that was only allowed for special clientele (though they’d attempt and fail to monetize it later). I noticed two things about the star when she came to hang out while we prepared for the next show: she’s very tall and pretty chill.

I’ve dealt with several celebrities trying to do the same thing, and there can, at times, be this mentality that they must be hidden or their fans will mob them. That’s often not true, and those people are usually freaking out for no reason, but you try to be nice. Zendaya just hung out in the corner, posted on Instagram about the music we were playing, and was just nice. It was perfectly pleasant, and made the news that she’s looking for some time off not very surprising.

The actor will be appearing in several huge movies this year, like Dune: Part Three, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She will also be appearing in the final season of Euphoria. A lot is going on, which means she’ll also be making the press rounds pretty frequently this year. That alone can lead to a lot of burnout, but even more so when you’re in such high-profile movies and ight even secretly be in another (looking at you, Avengers: Doomsday).

So, it makes sense that in a recent interview with Fandango to talk about The Drama (another movie she’s in this year), she explained that she might take a step back next year. “I just hope people don’t get sick of me, and I really appreciate everyone who supports any of the movies [and] supports my career in any kind of way. I’m deeply appreciative,” she explained in the interview. “I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year because I’ll tell you what — I’m disappearing for a little bit. I’m going to have to go into hiding for just a little bit.”

I don’t blame you, Zendaya. The lady can’t even (allegedly) get privately married to that little cutie Spider-Man without everybody trying to get up in their biz. Take some time off, live some life, and then, ya know… probably come back and do another two or three Spidey movies.
