Amanda Seyfried Gets Refreshingly Real About Being a 'Producer'

I’ve been covering celebrities for a long time now, and I feel comfortable saying Amanda Seyfried is one of the good ones if such a thing even exists. She’s chill, she does the work, and she’s not afraid to speak up in a time when we could sure use a whole lot of that. The only “weird” thing I know about her is that she’s obsessed with taxidermy, and hey, we all need hobbies. (She grew up in PA, and well, there’s not a lot to do here.)

Anyway, Seyfried brought her trademark candor to the latest episode of The Graham Norton Show where she opened up about finding out she’s an executive producer on The Housemaid three weeks into filming. Obviously, that would suggest she wasn’t heavily involved with the film’s development, and she wasn’t about to claim that stolen valor while Margot Robbie is sitting right next to her.

Turns out Seyfried’s agent negotiated the EP title for her, and she wants everyone to know that it means nothing. Via EW:

“I was like, ‘This really better be a hit,’” the Mean Girls star quipped, drawing laughter from the studio audience. But Seyfried was quick to note that her role as executive producer was “one of those vanity credits,” because as she poignantly admitted, “I didn’t do s‑‑‑ to make that movie. I only acted in it.”

She continued, “That’s the thing about vanity credits. It’s like, I don’t want people to get it twisted. What Margot does is really intensely developing movies from jump. I just jumped in, had a bunch of fun and left. And now I’m like, they’re sending me on a vacation.”

The Housemaid did end up being a hit, and one that Seyfried’s co-star Sydney Sweeney desperately needed. In fact, there’s already talk of a sequel, which Seyfried is game for. She’s not signed up for it, but apparently, that doesn’t matter with these films. Maybe they’ll make her the director and tell her at the premiere.
