Before we kick off today’s box-office contest, I need to belatedly announce the winner of a previous contest to provide a T-Shirt Slogan for TWoP fan last month for a a race she’s running called The Warrior Dash. TWoP fan selected these winners.

3. “Picked last in gym class.” —Shu Shu Fontana

2. “Run like you stole something.” —phaedawg

1. D*A*S*H (With an illustration of Alan Alda wearing an exercise headband.) —Caroline

Caroline said that she’d submit the Alda illustration if she won; she has. So, if you’d like, email me the illustration, and I will create a shirt from it for you. And best of luck to TWoP Fan in her upcoming race.

You don’t get too many weekends like the one upcoming one, where there are three notable films that have three different target audiences: The Expendables (Men), Eat, Pray, Love (Women), and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (Geeks). Whatever the result at the box-office, it’s likely to be something that’s discussed and hashed over by studio marketing teams for months. All three films are tracking well with their demographic, so it should provide a decent gauge of the relative strength of each demographic. Also, it’s kind of fun for the box-office wonks.

So, for today’s contest, I invite all of you to be box-office wonks. I have some fairly decent guesses, but I don’t really know who is going to win the box-office contest. I’m rooting for the geeks, if only so that Edgar Wright can find the mainstream success he deserves, but I can honestly envision any of the three winning, and seeing one or two of them possibly falling on their asses. (I’d root harder for the geeks if Jason Statham replaced Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim).

The contest is this: Predict the box-office totals for each of the three movies for this weekend only. Whoever comes closest with their prediction of the top five will win your choice of Edgar Wright, Julia Roberts, or Jason Statham DVD ($25 max).

Predictions should be put in this format:

1. Eat Pray Love: $102 million
2. Scott Pilgrim: $99.2 million
3. Expendables: $89.9 million

Predictions made after 6 p.m. EST on Friday, August 13th, will not count.
