For a few years now Annie Leibovitz has been recreating Disney scenes with famous faces for a glossy and elaborate ad campaign. Some of the portraits work better than others, though. We don’t like to send much praise Taylor Swift’s way, but her portrait as Rapunzel from last year is completely perfect. Swift has exactly the right amount of twink and sparkle for this kind of work.
But Jessica Chastain? She of the Zero Dark aviators and angular jaw? She looks amazingly out of place and downright uncomfortable as Merida from Brave.
Is this Bride of Franken-finger-in-the-socket look really the best we could do, wig-wise? I blame Walt. For a better Leibovitz/Chastain pairing, may I suggest this stunning photo recreation of famous portraits in last month’s Vogue? The Flaming June is my favorite, but they’re all stunners.
