I don’t know about you, but I’m a major wuss when it comes to blood and guts. I also happen to love shows that feature plenty of blood, violence and crime scenes (Game of Thrones, Hannibal, Penny Dreadful, American Horror Story), so I just muddle my way through the gross stuff, often trying to cover or peek through my eyes at the right moments. Of course, I often manage to look back at the screen right when someone’s throat gets slit (knives are the worst). It’s impossible not to admire the fantastically realistic work being done on television; even through the darkness, I’m pretty sure I flinched or jumped at least three times during last Sunday’s battle.

Make-up and effects artist Sangeet Prabhaker is the man behind many of the gory wounds and severed limbs we see during the course of a Game of Thrones season. He’s got a pretty nifty Instagram page that documents his work, so be warned, some of these may be considered *Spoilerish if you’re not caught up through this season.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau made up as a three-armed (aka “t-bone stump”) Jaime Lannister may not be gory, but it’s one of the creepiest things I’ve seen:

Pretty cool pics, and actually kind of helpful for wimps like me. (via io9)
