It seems we’ll never escape the film adaptation of Cats. The big screen version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical was released in December, 2019. Depending on who you ask, it was either a fun, campy, endlessly watchable mess or a warning sign of the year to come. No matter how you see it, Cats is here to stay and one savvy twitter user found a perfect use for it.
We are a few days removed from the DCFandome event shaking the comic movie world to its core. Sneak peeks, behind the scenes videos and new trailers made the event a must follow. One of the biggest attention grabbing moments was the release of a trailer for The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the titular hero. It was a great, moody trailer that sought to portray the tone of the new film. But Twitter user @_elvishpresley_ saw it’s true potential.
I put the Cats trailer audio over the Batman trailer.— Elvish Presley (@_elvishpresley_) August 25, 2020
The audio from the trailer for Cats works SO WELL over the trailer for The Batman it’s hypnotic. It matches the tone, the style and the pace of the caped crusader’s new outing in a way that almost seems intentional.
Is there a chance that trailers follow a certain mandate, dictating their flow and progression? Has it become such a cookie cutter progress that allows for endless adaptability? Perhaps. But I prefer to live in a world where the universe smiled on us and @_elvishpresley_ saw the beauty that was possible and gave us the crossover we never dreamed of.
