This morning, Tiffany Haddish was arrested for a DUI after falling asleep at the wheel in Beverly Hills. According to TMZ, police got a call around 5:45AM about someone stopped in the middle of Beverly Drive. The driver was slumped over at the wheel while the car was still running. Cops arrived at the scene and arrested Tiffany without incident (TMZ has the pics). The 43-year-old comedian will be cited for driving under the influence and released later today.
Hours before her arrest, Tiffany performed at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood for the club’s annual free Thanksgiving feast for the community. Obviously, she stuck around and partied late into the night. I guess all the Ubers, Lyfts, and car services disappeared off the face of the earth when the clock struck midnight. Bad luck.
This isn’t Tiffany’s first drunk driving arrest. Back in January 2022, she was arrested after falling asleep at the wheel in the Atlanta area. She was booked for a DUI and improperly stopping on a roadway, and she’s scheduled to go to trial on December 4. Methinks this latest DUI won’t help her case.
DUI #2 is the latest in a long line of Tiffany Haddish screw-ups. Last September, she and Aries Spears were sued for coaxing two underage siblings into performing sexually suggestive acts for “comedy” sketches about pedophiles. Less than three weeks later, the suit was dropped. The accuser publicly stated that she now knew Tiffany would “never harm me or my brother.” To me, that statement suggests Tiffany paid off the accusers.
After the sex abuse suit, other Tiffany controversies bubbled to the surface. The year before, she had been accused of spreading vaccine misinformation and allegedly doxxing a Black doctor. In 2018, the comedian confidently told GQ that drinking a teaspoon of turpentine helps keep people healthy and kills the “worms inside your body”. But wait, there’s more. Tiffany also has problematic opinions about Jonathan Majors, Andrew Tate, and Chris Brown. And there are more accusations about her sexually inappropriate behavior. Brian Richards helpfully compiled all the stupid and/or harmful things Tiffany has said and done in this article from April.
Obviously, Tiffany’s rep has taken a hit, and so has her career. The same day the lawsuit was dropped, Tiffany told TMZ, “I lost everything. All my gigs are gone.” Several weeks later, her show Tuca & Bertie was canceled (although it was never officially linked to the accusations). In January, Girls Trip 2 was finally greenlit, and Kaleena Rivera wrote about how Tiffany’s troubles tainted what should have been an exciting announcement. Today, the Girls Trip sequel is the only upcoming project on Tiffany’s IMDb. All her 2023 projects (Haunted Mansion, the second season of The Afterparty) were filmed before the lawsuit.
This past September, Tiffany was filmed following Shakira around and screaming her name at the VMAs. Problematic? Eh, not really. Annoying? Most definitely. At the time, I wrote that Tiffany was clearly trying to be funny, but after all of her recent controversies, “she should have been on her very best behavior.” And now… a second DUI. Hmmm. Maybe, just maybe, Tiffany doesn’t do “good” or “bad” behavior. Maybe she’s just a shitty person.
