Seen here with the very bottom of the late aughts barrel — Was Tila Tequila busy that night? — Meghan McCain recently opened up about why she refused to return to Real Time with Bill Maher after a disastrous appearance in 2009.
Meghan being ginormously thin-skinned isn’t the least bit surprising, but I gotta admit I was stunned to learn that she only appeared on Real Time once. As the resident expert on all things MY FATHER, I would’ve sworn on my kids’ lives that she was a frequent guest. Clearly, I must’ve imagined that, and now, I’m having serious doubts about the magical weekend we spent in the Poconos together. That snowman sure looked like her…
Anyway, in an unusually candid move, Meghan revealed that Paul Begala left her crying after he rightly schooled her in front of the live audience. Meghan also readily admitted that she had no business being on the show at age 25. “I had been put on TV way too early. As a nepo baby, people like putting famous kids on TV.” Is Meghan McCain self-reflecting? Truly, we are in the End of Days.
The moment happened when Meghan accused Obama of “blaming everything” on George W. Bush, who had literally just left office barely six months ago. Maher pressed Meghan if she really thinks that what Obama is doing, and she walked straight into a wall. Via The Daily Beast:
When McCain answered, “to a degree,” Begala countered, “not to enough of a degree, I’m sorry — not nearly enough. Ronald Reagan blamed Carter every day for eight years.”McCain blamed her lack of knowledge on her age. “I wasn’t born yet, so I don’t know,” she replied.
Begala retorted, “Well, I wasn’t born during the French Revolution, but I know about it,” to rousing applause from the audience. The comment got such a strong reaction that Maher stood and blocked McCain as if from gunfire as he quipped, “He’s a mean man!”
Flustered, McCain added, “You clearly know everything, and I’m just the blonde here.”
While Meghan refused to appear on Real Time ever again, she did admit that the experience taught her a valuable lesson about always being “hyper, hyper prepared when you go on any TV outlet.”
To her credit, Meghan did come loaded for bear every morning on The View. Granted, she was loaded with talking points spoon-fed to her by Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, and/or her walking meat sweats of a husband, but she was prepared.
