'Attempts to Cover Up Serious Abuse': Judge Dismisses Majority of Brad Pitt's Claims Against Angelina Jolie

A court in Los Angeles ruled against Brad Pitt and dismissed five of his seven claims against his estranged wife Angelina Jolie.

Pitt has spent many years dragging out his legal battle against Jolie, largely over the Château Miraval property and winemaking ventures they purchased in 2008 and were 50-50 partners until 2021. Jolie sold her share to the holding company Nouvel, and then Pitt sued her for monetary damages, accusing her of trying to ‘inflict harm’ on him and his interests. As Entertainment Tonight notes, a source says that ‘one of Pitt’s claims was based on the theory that Jolie and Nouvel were alter egos of each other and argued that the actress was liable for Nouvel’s alleged misconduct.’ The court rejected that claim.

Nouvel, in turn, filed docs claiming that Pitt had ‘stripped’ and ‘looted’ Miravel in an attempt to ‘seize de facto control’ of the winery. They also claimed he was wasting millions of dollars of the company’s money on ‘vanity projects’ (did you know Pitt has a skincare line?). Essentially, Nouvel are claiming that Pitt has driven the company into the ground and that it is massively overvalued.

Last year, the French website l’informe reported that Pitt lost a long-fought legal battle against the country’s tax authorities regarding the true value of the Miravel estate. The Administrative Court of Appeal of Marseille declared that Pitt had falsely lowered the value of Miraval in order to ‘minimize possession value.’ Curiously, this story was not widely picked up by American media, which has largely been very kind towards Pitt.

This latest legal loss for Pitt is notable because a judge called out how most of his claims against Jolie did not have a legal basis. According to Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, ‘instead, it is about his attempts to cover up serious abuse, and we are gratified the judge has thrown out so much of Mr. Pitt’s complaint.’

Of course, we cannot talk about this without also talking about the allegations of physical abuse made by Jolie and their children. The New York Times offered details of the allegations, made back in 2016, which described how Pitt ‘choked one of the children and struck another in the face’ and ‘grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall.’ These details were found via an FBI report, and revealed thanks to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

Since then, Pitt has waged a not-so-subtle media war against both Jolie and his own children, who have not been seen in public with him since the couple split. As I wrote in 2022, Pitt has been selling himself as a fun dude and serious artist who everyone loves and who is clearly just so much more likeable than his ex-wife, right guys?

The press, the entertainment industry, and plenty of gormless losers who never got over Pitt dumping Jennifer Aniston have long relished treating Jolie like a harlot who deserves everything bad that happens to her. When they’re not calling her a liar and claiming she turned the kids against poor Bradley, they’re pulling Johnny Depp-esque tactics to dismiss the claims from an FBI report as attempts to hurt an innocent gentleman who never hurt anyone in his life.

To quote myself, ‘A good PR clean-up seeks to rob the viewer of context. What all of the TMZ and Page Six noise overlooks is that Jolie’s allegations of abuse are part of a counterclaim in response to Pitt suing her over the same of her share in the winery Chateau Miraval. HE brought all of this to light. HE’s the one dragging his ex through the courts. HE’s the one who wanted Jolie to sign an NDA which would have prevented her from discussing what happened on that plane.’

Honestly, I’m surprised an American entertainment website even touched on this recent dismissal since it doesn’t gel with the overall whitewashing of his image they’ve long been culpable in. I’m sure we’ll get a ton of ‘sources’ running to People and TMZ to talk about how Brad has never been happier, how he’s so healthy and definitely sees his kids all the time, and that Angelina is just bitter. Meanwhile, Jolie continues her activism, is now running a fashion company and designing Oscar dresses, and is playing Maria Callas in a new movie. She deserves peace, as do her kids. She doesn’t need to be yet another woman in the public eye used as an acceptable target for systemic misogyny and victim-blaming.
