Jennifer Aniston Whines About Cancel Culture

Jennifer Aniston has it all: the royalties from one of television’s biggest series of all time, well-hydrated skin, and a show on Apple TV+ that continues to persist. With the way Gen Z is going, who knows—the Rachel haircut might make a comeback soon. But, as is often the case with wealthy people who could simply remain silent rather than face the anger and criticism of those reading their entitled, out-of-date opinions, she chose to speak her mind.

She thinks that “cancel culture” has gone a little too far. She’s “over it.” In an interview with the Wall Street Journal in preparation for season three of The Morning Show, she says:

“I just don’t understand what it means …. Is there no redemption? I don’t know. I don’t put everybody in the Harvey Weinstein basket.”

It’s astounding that she highlights part of the underlying issue with people’s responses to what cancel culture is while reinforcing her own antiquated beliefs. A fantastic way to understand would be to listen — often, those who report mistreatment and abuse share details on why the said person needs to be “canceled” anyway.

Even more infuriating is that the term “cancel culture,” like “woke,” is so commonly misinterpreted that there’s a very good chance Aniston doesn’t understand because she doesn’t care to. She’s right that not every person who does a bad thing should be placed in a “Harvey Weinstein” basket. Not everybody has committed the same level of heinous crimes, and the leeway I give someone who maybe fumbles with their wording or behaves like a narcissistic celebrity is different from the instant revulsion I feel when faced with pictures of Kevin Spacey, Woody Allen, Johnny Depp, or her ex-husband Brad Pitt.

As it has been said time and again, people can say and do objectionable things—it’s out of our control. But just because they can doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t be held accountable. Actions are met with reactions. Though, in Hollywood, whether or not that cancellation actually sticks is murky. There’s Weinstein, and he’s in jail. Are we supposed to count that as a win and just look the other way for everyone else?

Aniston isn’t making some great, profound declaration here. She’s simply buying into the nonsense that the elite continue to push. It’s the rich supporting the rich as usual until enough garbage piles up and they’re unable to ignore the stench. She’s probably also trying to cover her own ass after being called out for unnecessarily throwing Jamie Foxx under the bus.
