There are plenty of directors who tend to work with the same people. It makes sense. You spend a lot of time with folks you’re making a movie with. If it goes well, it only makes sense that a director would want to do whatever they can to recreate that experience on their next film. Hiring the same people is a step in that direction. It’s like starting a family. But why not cut out the middle man?
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for over 40 years. The pair have starred in three movies together. They’ve never gotten officially married, but they have a son named Wyatt Russell. Wyatt is pretty famous in his own right, having starred in a slew of films. He isn’t alone. Goldie had two children from a previous marriage, Oliver and Kate Hudson. Both are successful actors as well. If it were up to Hawn, they would all be in a movie together.
The actress recently sat down for Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa. She pitched an idea that anyone should be on board for. “What I would love, actually — before we all get too old — [it] would be so great to do a movie together,” Goldie told Kelly. “Wouldn’t it? It would be so fun and so crazy and oh, my God.” Ripa mentioned that the crew should do a reality show together. That wouldn’t be the ideal in my book, but I know I might be in the minority there.
There isn’t anything official yet, but Hawn mentions that one project has at least been discussed. “We might do something with Oliver that is a cartoon, so in other words, we would all be the voices of that,” she explained. “That would be a lot of fun.” Honestly, yes. Do a cartoon together! Get the whole family involved! It’s already been fun to watch Goldie and Kurt team up. We got to see Kurt and Wyatt team up, and that was worth it for the press tour alone.
Is this changing my mind about nepotism in the film industry? In addition to asking that nepo babies simply admit that they’ve benefited from a leg up, I think they should also have to do a movie or TV show with as many of their family members working in the industry. It won’t always be as fun as the Hawn/Hudson/Russell crew, but it will at least be entertaining.
