Nepo babies! You’ve heard the term. We’ve discussed it at length on this site. Nepotism is unavoidable. Some people handle it with grace and dignity. Others insist they had it just as hard and only succeeded because of their talent. Today, we will focus on two A+ nepo babies. Kurt and Wyatt Russel!
Kurt is the son of actor Bing Russell. Bing was a successful actor who even owned a baseball team. Wyatt is the son of Kurt and Goldie Hawn. A nepotism twofer! Did they deserve their careers based on merit alone? We’ll never know! Are they talented, regardless? Hell yes. With these two, I choose to sit back and watch them have fun, and boy, oh boy, are they having a lot of it.
The Russells sat down with Seth Meyers last night, and it’s the second time I’ve watched/listened to them do an interview together. The other was on Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend. In both interviews, Kurt Russell is the happiest I have seen any human being. He’s quick to laugh and smile and lay compliments at the feet of his son. It’s aspirational!
I have two kids, and my biggest fear is that they will grow up and not like me. I don’t have a successful family name they can cash in on (unless they pretend to be Isabel Sanford’s great-grandkids, which I will accept), so the possibility of them resenting me is high. Getting to hang out with them in a talk show setting while we drink booze we both own? That’s the dream!
There are aspects of nepotism that are infuriating. It’s nice to be presented with something more wholesome instead. It isn’t super achievable if you’re not a third-generation star. But, when you’re dealing with the entertainment industry, you’re often going to have to ignore the frustration and focus on the big, beautiful grin of a proud papa/grandpa/GoGi.
(Warning! If you are behind on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and don’t want it spoiled for you, the clip used in this segment is a big spoiler. Skip it if you can. I did not…)
