Fran Drescher, the union president of SAG-AFTRA, has been negotiating a new contract with AMPTP on behalf of Hollywood’s actors. Their contract expired on July 1st, but the deadline was extended to avoid a strike until tomorrow night (Wednesday). Reportedly, the two sides are far from reaching an agreement on the issue of residuals, in part because the streamers do not want to reveal their viewership numbers.

With only a few days remaining before a potential strike, it is reasonable to assume that the union president would be negotiating on behalf of her 160,000 members to prevent them from losing their paychecks. Alternatively, she might be developing contingency plans for the strike. Right?

Wait? What’s this? She’s spending time with Kim Kardashian? Is she attending a star-studded, five-day Dolce & Gabbana event in Italy with celebrities like Helen Mirren, Kerry Washington, Angela Bassett, Christian Bale, and Kris Jenner? Could this possibly be true? It would seem an incredible action for a union president, who is partially responsible for the livelihoods of 160,000 people, most of whom are significantly less affluent than Drescher.

I don’t believe it! That would be the worst look imaginable. Pics or it didn’t happen?!

Oh, dear. She even posed for a photo with a scab?! “Unless the bargaining table has moved to Italy (along with the dress code), this is a terrible look for a union president,” Taffy Brodesser-Akner added. “Don’t get me started on her friend here.”

Regardless, the hope is that if the actors do go on strike, the solidarity between SAG and the writers will eventually persuade the studios to agree. However, some suggest that the yachts have all left the marina and will not return until after Labor Day. If this is true, it will create a significant problem for the networks, which will have to compete against the streaming platforms’ backlog of content with game shows and The Golden Bachelor.
