In recounting Anna Kendrick’s past relationships, how many of you remember that she dated Bill Hader for about a year, right after the pandemic? That was before Hader dated Rachel Bilson, who once said he had a, uh, large penis, and before he settled into a long-term relationship with Ali Wong. I bring this up because, beyond dating Edgar Wright and enduring an abusive relationship, Kendrick now has a new boyfriend. And yes, he’s also a comedian.
In fact, he’s one of my favorites. Kendrick—who was recently in her hometown of Portland, Maine, filming an episode of NPR’s Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me—has been dating Alex Edelman for several months. According to People, it’s serious enough that she’s “met his mom.”
For the unfamiliar, Alex Edelman is a brilliant Jewish comedian I first heard on one of my all-time favorite episodes of This American Life, “Jews for Jesus, Just for One Day.” He recounted a story, which later became the basis for a stand-up special, about his very Jewish family deciding to celebrate Christmas one year to support a family friend who was going through a rough time. I’ve probably listened to it half a dozen times. It’s fantastic and sweet as hell.
Edelman has also been cast in the upcoming The Office spin-off, The Paper, alongside Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore, so soon we’ll all get to know Alex Edelman. And we’ll all be the better for it.
Also, this may be as good a time as any to remind you all to watch Rocket Science.
