Folks, Don't Take Your Laptop to the Bathroom During Videoconferences

For a lot of us, videoconferencing is a wild new frontier in our fight against a pandemic, as we continue to go through the motions of normalcy. My eight-year-old daughters are videoconferencing on Zoom for school now, and in two days, they already have more experience with it than I have in my entire life. My experience with it mostly amounts to this:

We parents stand off to the side of these Zoom chats with teachers, classroom students, Hebrew classes, etc., and occasionally spot an adult in the background folding laundry. In March 2020, that’s called, “Socializing.”

Society may be crumbling all around us, and that may be reason enough to work from home in our sweatpants. There is a line, however, and that line is taking the laptop to the bathroom with you. That’s what this poor, poor woman on a videoconference below does, clearly on some sort of pandemic autopilot, as she settles in on the toilet before realizing, “Oh sh*t. All of my co-workers can now see me taking care of my business.”

Thank you “Poor Jennifer.” Your brief humiliation has given a couple of million people a few seconds of joy when joy is otherwise difficult to come by. In your own way, you are a hero.
