A study released recently by the Center for Countering Digital Hate reported that out of the 100 tweets from Twitter Blue users reported for hate speech, Twitter did not take action on 99 percent of them. Despite clear violations of Twitter policy, all of the accounts remained active.

Another company has decided to no longer advertise on the platform due to Elon Musk’s refusal to address the issue of hate speech.

The situation on Twitter has escalated to the point where Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine is facing backlash for an anti-Nazi tweet. Seriously. Meanwhile, the Trust & Safety team has reportedly been instructed not to enforce their ad policy unless the ad is a scam or illegal. In other words, Twitter not only allows subscribers to violate the platform’s own hate-speech policies, but it also will allow advertisers to promote hate speech.

Meanwhile, yesterday Twitter censored a transphobic video titled “What is a Woman?” by the Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh. Elon Musk himself faced significant backlash before claiming that it was a mistake made by many people working at Twitter (Elon Musk and Twitter recently struck a content deal with The Daily Wire). Following the incident, the head of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, resigned, along with Brand Safety Manager Maie Aiyed, as her team had been rebuked by Musk for censoring the video. This morning, A.J. Brown, Twitter’s head of brand safety and ad quality, also resigned. Irwin’s departure comes only months after her predecessor, Yoel Roth, left the position.

Twitter is currently ranked as the fourth most hated brand in America. Linda Yaccarino is set to take over as CEO this month.
