Who Am I to Disagree? 'Doctor Who' Series 8 Will Feature This Awesome Fan-Created Opening

I’ve got a great feeling about Doctor Who, series 8. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are so drastically different from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, and frankly, we need the change. I don’t believe I really thought about it before, but there was similar vibe between Smith and David Tennant, and at that time, Smith was the right transitional Doctor to keep us all from being destroyed by Ten’s loss. Their youthful, jovial versions of the Doctor were close enough to mask the sting, to let us ease out of the Tennantity. But now; now we need a serious change, and in my bones I can already feel Capaldi was exactly the right choice. Likewise, a new Doctor means it’s a great time to change up the opening title sequence, but who would have guessed Moffat would go for a fan-made version?

Billy Hanshaw isn’t exactly an amateur — he’s a professional motion graphics artist — but he did create the credits just for fun. After Hanshaw posted it to Youtube the video went viral, Steven Moffat caught it, and found it “absolutely stunning.” The showrunner called the sequence “The only new title idea I’d seen since 1963,” and he hired Hanshaw to create the Series 8 credits which we’ll see in their entirety August 23rd. Until then, here is the artist’s original video:

Dare to dream, people…
