I did not initially see the abrasive charm of Billy Eichner, whose shtick is to approach strangers on Manhattan streets and berate them for failing to answer his questions correctly. It kind of rubbed my Southern sensibilities the wrong way. But, it is Manhattan, and most of the people he’s yelling at are probably jerks anyway, right?
Either way, after his stint on Parks and Recreation, he began to grow on me, and while yelling at strangers still makes me a little uncomfortable, it is also very funny, even more so when the delightful Amy Poehler tags along and doesn’t know whether to yell or apologize. Last night, on Jimmy Kimmel Live, they featured another Eichner segment, where he and Poehler would offer strangers on the sidewalk $1 if they could sign Christmas Carols. Most failed. It’s funny, but it’s also impressive how many people Poehler and Eichner approached in a single five- minutes stretch.
The best bit comes near the end, when Poehler express faux-outrage when a delivery man doesn’t recognize her. “YOU KNOW ME!”
