Was the 'Breaking Bad' Machine-Gun Finale Plausible? 'Mythbusters' Investigates

There’s a fun and interesting relationship between Breaking Bad and Mythbusters. Back in 2013, Mythbusters investigated whether hydrofluoric acid in a bathtub would cause the tub to fall through the floor and whether solid mercury fulminate thrown to the ground would cause the explosion like the one seen in Breaking Bad.

The answer, in both cases, was no.

But what about that spectacular Breaking Bad finale in which Walter White set up a machine-gun booby trap and blew everyone away? If there was any criticism with the Breaking Bad finale — and there was very little — it was in how implausible that scenario actually was.

However, The Mythbusters guys, along with Vince Gilligan, demonstrated that that scenario actually is possible. A booby trap like the one Walter White set up from the trunk of his car actually could work, as you’ll see in the bad-ass video below.
