Turns Out, Brilliant Jimmy Kimmel Was Behind the Internet's Girl-On-Fire Twerk Fail

I’d seen headlines all over the Internet last week like “Twerk Fail Ends with Girl on Fire,” but I typically avoid posts that have the word “twerk” in it (no offense, twerkers). It wasn’t until this morning, when we learned that Jimmy Kimmel had been behind the viral video the entire time that I actually watched it, and you know what? It’s hilarious. You know what else? It’s even funnier knowing that it was staged by Kimmel. Kimmel clearly took Jon Lajoie’s viral video lessons from NTSF:SD:SUV and learned how to manufacture a spontaneous viral video fail. The video was posted two months ago, and it took nearly two months for it to finally take off, but once it did, it went gadzooks.

If you haven’t seen the viral video, here’s the unedited version (which is just like the edited version that got 10 million views, except here Jimmy Kimmel walks out in the end).

And here’s Kimmell and the stunt-woman discussing the prank, and the many, many news networks that ran with it.
